Criterion Now – Episode 131 – A Conversation with Imogen Sara Smith

Imogen Sara Smith joins Aaron and Jill to talk about a number of things. For those who don’t know, Imogen is a fixture on Criterion releases. She has recorded video interviews for releases, written numerous essays, and has introduced Criterion Channel collections. She has also written two books and recorded commentaries for other labels. She’s a favorite of many Criterion collectors, including both Criterion Now co-hosts. In this episode we discuss a lot of noir including international noir, Myrna Loy, and many other topics.

Aaron West

I am a somewhat educated Criterion dork, with a History and Film Studies bachelor's degree and plenty of self-education over the years. My tastes are all over the map. Probably my favorite is 1930s French Poetic Realism, but I like everything from noir, to animation, to horror, westerns, and modern film. Usually I prefer film that challenges and requires something of the viewer.
